Ripper is a bulldog who appears as a minor character in The Secret Life of Pets and the mini-movie Super Gidget. He is one of the main partners of Snowball and a prominent member of The Flushed Pets.

Appearance[]

Ripper is a red and white bulldog with a red body, white mask and white markings on his face, belly, and paws. Like other examples in his breed, he is stocky and muscular with an underbite. A spiked black leather muzzle prohibits him from biting, and he has a matching spiked black leather harness on his body with a buckle securing it in front.

Personality[]

Although Ripper is silent throughout the movie, he appears to be very trustworthy and loyal to Snowball, to the point where he often lets Snowball stand on his head for support, use him for transportation, and even appears unfazed by him accidentally shoving the carrot key up his nostril. He also reacts indifferently to Viper's sudden death. In addition, Ripper always has the same look of anger and dignity on his face.

However, he does appear to retain the same hatred of humans and domesticated animals like his fellow gang members; as when he chases and crashes behind Mel, and Mel doesn't get hurt because Ripper is unable to bite him due to the muzzle on his face.

Plot[]

The Secret Life of Pets[]

When Max and Duke are caught by the officers of Animal Control, they are locked in separate cages in the back of their truck where Ripper is, having been caught before them.

Ripper is soon rescued by Snowball when the latter leads fellow Flushed Pets Tattoo and Dragon to hijack the truck while Snowball unlocks Ripper's cage with a carrot key. When introducing themselves to Max, out of excitement, Snowball inserts the carrot key into Ripper's nose. After being convinced that Max and Duke are not pets, Snowball continues with them to the sewers atop Ripper's back.

Later, when Viper suddenly dies, Snowball rides Ripper and tries to catch Max and Duke in the sewers but is unable to, and the two dogs eventually flee to Brooklyn.

Super Gidget[]

In the mini-movie Super Gidget, Ripper initially appears as the main antagonist in Gidget's dream. However, it is soon discovered that Infestor has taken control of Ripper's body and is the real villain. During the fight with Super Gidget, Ripper, who is still under the control of Infestor, is flung out of the area after taking a direct hit from her Super Sparkle Rainbow ability.

Trivia[]

  • An early name for Ripper was "Stub."
  • Ripper never says a word in the movie. However, he seems to make a small huff-like sound when Snowball frees him, along with a loud grunt when Leonard hits him in the ending party scene.
